iPass and Uber have announced a partnership to provide international Uber riders with free Wi-Fi in Rio de Janeiro. As part of the partnership, iPass will provide riders with access to more than 1,160 iPass commercial hotspots in Rio de Janeiro.

Uber has agreed to sell its Chinese business to rival Didi Chuxing. The taxi-booking app will retain separate branding in the country, with Uber also taking a 5.9 per cent stake in the combined company. Didi Chuxing - which is backed by internet giants Tencent and Alibaba - dominates the taxi-booking sector in China with nearly 90 per cent of the market.

Europcar reports slight increase in profits for early 2016
Europcar has reported total revenue amounted to €948 million for the first half of 2016, compared to €961 million in 2015 first semester, representing an increase of 0.5 per cent at constant currency. This increase is mainly driven by a 0.9 per cent growth in rental revenue, to €883 million, and partly off-set by the decrease of petrol prices.

Skyscanner has revealed travellers will be able to search for hotels and car hire from the existing flights app. The trend for both searching and booking travel on mobile has accelerated dramatically in recent years, with the Skyscanner apps having been downloaded over 40 million times worldwide. Almost half of all Skyscanner searches in the UK are now made using a mobile device, while the last year alone has seen a 38 per cent increase in people booking via smartphones in the UK.

Avis Budget UK expands operations at London Heathrow
Avis Budget UK has launched its on-terminal car rental service at Heathrow Airport Terminal 2, in a significant move for its UK operations. This unique service is already available at Terminal 5. This multi-year partnership will enable Avis Budget UK to deliver an express plane to car service for customers, currently making it the only car rental provider to offer this at both terminals, so that Avis customers will enjoy a five minute walk to their rental vehicle as an alternative to travelling by shuttle bus to the main Avis station.
