Avis Rent A Car today announced that its most loyal customers now have a convenient and eco-friendly way to keep their coats, suit jackets or other garments wrinkle-free in their rental vehicle. The Company is offering hangers made of 100 percent recycled and recyclable material at nine Avis airport locations in the United States to members of its Avis Preferred and Avis First programs.

As part of Europcar Australia's environmental push, the car rental company is now adding more diesel vehicles to its fleet. Over the next few weeks the company will take delivery of a total of 500 Volkswagen Jetta Diesel 2.0 TDIs and Skoda Octavia Ambiente sedans.

Hertz is to cut more than 4,000 jobs in a worldwide restructuring as it makes further cost savings amid slackening demand.The car rental giant has already cut its workforce by 22% in the last two years. The new losses takes the figure to 32% since August 2006.

Avis Europe is cutting 315 jobs as it battens down the hatches for tougher time ahead.The car rental giant, which has outlets across Europe and the Middle East, said that volumes have noticeably weakened in the fourth quarter. Chief executive, Pascal Bazin, warned of "continued difficult conditions" in 2009 and beyond.
